its dry right now in israel and palestine.. we have had two very dry winters and a third is slowly crackling its way into our region.. this affects everyone.. we all suffer from the shortage and with all lovely little water saving whizzes aside - we remain at large a very wasteful bunch of people when it comes to our liquid of life..
this has drawn some spiritual leaders to pray.. and why not do it together.. as some of them in fact have.. drawing on the theory that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.. reminds me of the song the kids sang at sulhita about praying to the same one god..

This is so good news, Im happy to hear that a Rabbi, Priets and Imam were united under one God. Actualy I didnt know that Jews had prayers for water shortage like Muslims. Something new to learn. I hope we are always united like that.
:)
I didn't even know we had those payers for water shortages so thank you and this is a wonderful thing to see. If only it could be like this everyday.
The unity not the water shortages I mean.
yes it is indeed heartwarming to seepeople of different faiths coming together. I wonder if people know that there are several water projects in the middle east that have just been halted due to the tensions and conflict that would serve well to solve a lot of the water shortages. water is going to be a major point of contention all over the world, even here in India we are facing problems especially in the north east with China.
It's really unfortunate that leaders today are so caught up in their politics that they forget the real problems that we as the next generation and our children will have to content with.
the real battles go "unnoticed".. they keep us bickering so we dont pay attention.. i tend to agree..
wondering what projects u are referring to..
Well the Sinai currently has a lot of underground water, enough to last for a few hundred years, and there was some talk about cooperating with Egypt about that. but nothing has come of it.
and the much debated peace canal or the red-dead sea project, which would not only be used for trade, to generate electricity but also to bring in fresh desalinated water..again its all halted and nothing came of it.
ambika, the red to deadsea project has been awarded to a French or Japanese company to do the visiblity study, so its on the way, it's a joined project between Jordan, Israel and the Palestinain Authoryt as all 3 will benefit from it. Its on the way but it was delayed because of fear of envirnmentaly damaging the Deadsea.
in fact the dangers of the red to dead are much broader than just damaging the dead sea.. the damage to the red sea could also be pretty harsh as well as the areas surrounding the canal all the way down..
he salt water reserves under the sinai apparently span the negev and parts of saudi arabia as well.. have to admit its been years since i heard about it and i need to refresh.. any referenced info would be great..
Ali, yes i know that there is a visibility study going on regarding the red-dead project, and clearly it will benefit millions of people in several different ways, the point i was trying to make is that if the politicians were not so caught up in needless bickering and war something like this could have been underway years ago. and beyond the environmental issue, a major reason it was halted was due to the tensions in the region.
as for the water under the sinai, one of the reasons is that on one has heard much recently was again because of the region it spans the political leaders couldnt come to any decisions, again mainly due to tensions. i'll dig up the reference i have but some of it is a few years old.
that would be great :)
check this out..
i meant this haha
